Music Ministry

Mission

Through involvement in the music ministry we are able to increase our personal commitment to Christ. By sharing of our time and talents, others may be inspired in worshipping God. We hope that you will find it possible to join one of our music ministries here at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church. You can take part in an exciting, active, and vital ministry in the life of St. Louis Catholic community. Information about the various ways you can become involved in St. Louis' music ministry:

Special Music Concerts and Events

For more information on upcoming concerts and other music events see the Concerts web page.

Our Organ

The Great Organ at St. Louis Church serves to lead worship at the traditional weekend and weekday liturgies, as well as for the Parochial School Masses. In addition, the instrument is used extensively in concert, and is especially well suited to the music of the 19th and 20th centuries. The organ is comprised of 60 ranks over five divisions, with a 4 manual Aeolian-Skinner console. For a complete specification of the instrument, please click on this link. If you have any questions regarding the organ, please call Chris Oelkers at 512.454.0384, ext. 204, or email.

St. Louis Church Piano Fund

After years of upright and electronic pianos, we are starting a campaign to raise monies to purchase high quality grand pianos for use in our church and chapel. St. Louis already has a tradition of fine music, but the acquisition of two large-scale acoustic grand pianos will allow a still greater range of musical style to invigorate our liturgies and other parish musical activities. In addition, concert quality instruments would allow us to better serve the musical needs of the greater Austin community (through the hosting of Diocesan events and local charitable-cause concerts, such as the annual Caregivers Concert), and provide the necessary means to host a variety of visiting artists and ensembles of stature that draw visitors (and, thereby, potential new church members) to our campus.

Our goal for the fund is $60,000. We ask for your prayers and, if possible, your financial support. If you desire to make a monetary donation in support of this campaign, your contribution should be made payable to the St. Louis Church Piano Fund. All donations are tax deductible.

Parish Choir

The Parish Choir is an advanced ensemble that sings traditional music from Gregorian Chant to modern day as well as occasional offerings in folk, ethnic and contemporary styles. Much emphasis is placed on acapella singing. The Parish Choir sings each week at the 9:30 a.m. Mass, has primary singing responsibilities on High Holy Days and Feasts, and often participates in Diocesan events such as ordinations and confirmations. Prior choral experience and music reading skills are helpful for membership in this ensemble, but not required.
