Sacraments of CommitmentMarriageMatrimony unites a man and woman sacramentally, giving each the grace to love each other and provide for the generation and education of children. According to the Council of Trent: "The grace of the sacrament perfects the human love of the spouses, strengthens the indissoluble unity, and sanctifies them on the way to eternal life." St. Louis Parish recommends a minimum of six to nine months notice so couples can be meaningfully prepared for the Sacrament of Marriage. Couples will meet with clergy for counseling and to prepare a marriage file and they will be asked to participate in a structured preparation program. St. Louis King of France Church offers a "One in the Lord", given in a 7 week evening series format. For more information about the marriage preparation process, call 512.454.0384. Holy OrdersGod calls both men and women to serve God and the Church through religions vocations, but only men can be ordained as deacons, priests or bishops. This sacrament is a special grace and is received only once in a lifetime. Currently, St. Louis has three seminarians studying for the priesthood. Education and preparation of deacons and priests is coordinated through the Diocesan Office of Vocations. Please call that office at 512.476-4888. The Diocese hosts a variety of discernment programs throughout the year that enable those interested in religious vocations to explore the options available to them. |
